Slurp.asia Holiday Sales Confirm Surging Growth at Leading Online Retailer
Slurp.asia today released details of a surge in transactions through its website during the Christmas and pre-Chinese New Year periods. Slurp.asia is rapidly becoming Hong Kong’s leading dedicated online merchant, and this is borne out in the company’s most recent sales data.
Slurp.asia reported a year on year increase of over 600% in transactions through its website in December 2012, demonstrating not only the success of the Slurp.asia brand and proposition, but also the rapid shift in attitudes of HK consumers towards online shopping for wine, beers and spirits.

Slurp.asia Holiday Sales Confirm Surging Growth at Leading Online Retailer
Slurp.asia today released details of a surge in transactions through its website during the Christmas and pre-Chinese New Year periods. Slurp.asia is rapidly becoming Hong Kong’s leading dedicated online merchant, and this is borne out in the company’s most recent sales data.
Slurp.asia reported a year on year increase of over 600% in transactions through its website in December 2012, demonstrating not only the success of the Slurp.asia brand and proposition, but also the rapid shift in attitudes of HK consumers towards online shopping for wine, beers and spirits.
Since its founding in mid 2011, Slurp.asia has now attracted over 2,300 customers in Hong Kong - a number that is growing every day - and which has been achieved primarily through word-of-mouth via social media and e-direct marketing campaigns. Slurp.asia’s website traffic also increased by over 500% during the past year, with in excess of 5,500 unique visitors in December 2012.
Slurp.asia Managing Director, Tom Chamberlain commented:
“Our growth in the last 12 months has exceeded even our most optimistic projections, but our holiday traffic and revenues were exceptional. In the run up to the holiday period we increased our range of premium retail products - especially the number of exceptional everyday drinking wines that we offer – and these were snapped up by our customers. According to a recent survey by Mastercard, 96% of Hong Kong shoppers - whether they buy a product on-line or in store - browse the internet first. This represents a huge opportunity for online retailers with the right platform and proposition to capture market share from ‘bricks and mortar’ competitors.

The top end Bordeaux sweet wine Château Rieussec 2003 (HK$ 390.00) sold out in just 2 hours – despite demand being limited to just one bottle per customer! The deal, which allowed Slurp customers to buy the 96 point Robert Parker wine for a 33% discount was the latest in a series of eye-catching deals launched onto the Hong Kong market.

High Value Slurp Deal Sells Out in Record Time
Slurp.asia today announced a new record for selling out a Slurp Deal. The deal, which allowed Slurp customers to buy the 96 point Robert Parker wine for a 33% discount was the latest in a series of eye-catching deals launched onto the Hong Kong market.
Slurp Deals were launched in April 2012 and have exploded in popularity. Sold online only, the Deals are launched without notice and are emailed to Slurp’s dedicated list of subscribers on a first come / first served basis. They usually feature iconic wines which have high critical acclaim and which are widely known in Hong Kong and China. Past successful Slurp Deals have included rare back vintages of Torbreck Struie and Steading, as well as an incredible 94 point Parker Chapoutier Cotes du Rousillion for under HK$110.00/btl. Deals are also often accompanied by dedicated video tasting notes to explain the ‘story’ of the wine more fully. Tasting notes are offered in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

With the recent hiring of James Woodhead, formerly of the Antique Wine Company and a city trader, Slurp.asia has created a new division - Slurp.asia Fine Wines. James will head the division which has already produced fantastic results targeting HNW clients in Hong Kong and China with the most prestigious labels sourced from around the world. Managing Director Tom Chamberlain commented on the fact that Slurp have pursued a far from conventional strategy in Asia:"The HK wine industry is full of casualties from the Bordeaux boom.. We hardly sold a bottle of Lafite or DRC in the first year and instead concentrated on the fantastic quality and diversity that lies in wine's middle ground - this is the only sustainable future for the growth of the sector in Asia. Now that we have a loyal customer base and growing reputation for price and quality, we are well placed to develop our Fine Wine division."

And the grand title of best wine of the tasting went to the 2008 vintage, which has since been awarded a score of 95/100 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
