Diamond Creek is California's first exclusively Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Vineyard. It was established in 1968 by Al Brounstein, a visionary pioneer who planted Bordeaux varietals on secluded Diamond Mountain in the northern Mayacamas Range of the Napa Valley. The Diamond Creek property has three separate vineyards: Red Rock Terrace, Gravelly Meadow and Volcanic Hill, each with a distinct microclimate and soil type. In certain years when conditions produce an exceptional wine, a Lake Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is released. Volcanic Hill is comprised of 8 acres of south facing hillside vineyard. It is the warmest of all the Diamond Creeks’ vineyards microclimates. The colour of the soil is grey, and the consistency is that of fluffy, volcanic ash, originally deposited from the eruption of Mt. Konocti 8 million years ago. This a well-balanced wine, with flavours of perfectly ripened blackberries and herbal scents of sage and thyme, together with earthy and leathery nuances. It is a full-bodied and intense wine with a smoky richness, firm tannins and a lengthy finish. It is a delicious and succulent vintage, structured for age.
