The Bianchi family winery was founded in 1928 by Italian immigrant Valentin Bianchi and now covers 350 hectares of vineyard. It is now run by the third generation, headed by Enzo Bianchi. Until recently a sleeping giant that was dependent largely on the domestic market, they have undergone a gradual transformation and modernisation in the past few years. The grapes for this single-vineyard wine come from the Doña Elsa vineyard, Rama Caida, San Rafael, Mendoza, around 760 meters above sea level. One of the coolest areas in San Rafael, the soil in Rama Caida is of sandy calcareous composition and alluvial origins. Yields were 9,000 kg/ha. The classic Malbec aromas of ripe plums, tobacco and violets are evident in the nose, with hints of vanilla. The beauty of the Malbec in Argentina is its ability to combine a rich, weighty mouth feel with a soft silkiness normally associated with lighter wines. This has good balance and a long finish.
