Built in 1995, Sacred Hill’s winery is one of Hawke's Bay’s most efficient and advanced wine production facilities. A combination of old world and new world practices has been adopted by Sacred Hill’s viticultural and winemaking teams. Quality has never been sacrificed to achieve growth in volume – a philosophy that has done much to build and maintain Sacred Hill’s enviable reputation. The Mason family and chief winemaker Tony Bish remain true to their original mission – to produce exceptional wines, no matter what. The many gold, silver and bronze medals won by Sacred Hill since 1995 are evidence that only the highest standards are good enough at this winery. Sacred Hill’s Special Selection range represents the pinnacle of Sacred Hill’s craft. These handmade wines are only produced in outstanding vintages, using premium Hawke’s Bay and Central Otago grapes from premier sites such as Riflemans Terraces and Gimblett Gravels, where growing and ripening conditions have come as close to perfection as nature will allow. The Deer Stalker Syrah is elegant, with a floral, spicy, lifted sweet fruit aroma. Layered dark fruits mix with earthy hints with truffle nuances and a very rich and complex palate, which is layered and supple adds finnesse. The palate flows beautifully from front to back with seamless texture and ripe flavoursome profile. Impress your dinner guests and serve this great value Syrah with any game and wild meat, such as duck, pheasant, venison, red meats, roasted vegetables and Moroccan dishes. Jancis Robinson gives this 16 points and says, "Tight apple and banana fruit, a touch of sweetcorn, cream and sweet spice with a bright acid and good line."
