"The 2005 Lovedale Semillon is becoming a medium lemon yellow color and developing nutty, beeswax, waxed lemon and straw aromas while a relatively youthful sense of restraint in the lingering citric peel and orange blossom scents promises much more to come. Crisp and clean in the mouth with a nice intensity of toasty / nutty / honeyed flavors evolving. Long finish with notes of coriander seed. Drink now to 2020." 93pts
It was with a firm belief in regional definition, single vineyard wines and a thorough understanding of the Hunter Valley landscape the late Maurice O’Shea planted the famed Rosehill and Lovedal Vineyards in the Hunter Valley in 1946. Nearly sixty years on, the exceptional single vineyard Mount Pleasant wine stands as a quintessential expression of its origin, and honours the winemakers with the foresight and skill to make it. Fruit for this acclaimed wine is sourced entirely from the Lovedale Vineyard, planted by legendary winemaker the late Maurice O’Shea in 1946. Since 1950, McWilliam’s Mount Pleasant Lovedale Semillon has stood as a quintessential expression of its origin and has today solidified its place as one of Australia’s benchmark Semillons. This wine has a long and complex palate, exhibiting youthful vibrancy and aged complexity. Primary citrus fruits intertwine with mineral acidity and developing toasty aged influences, then the flavour weight increases across the length and breadth of this delicate, complex, structured palate. Enjoy young with Boston Clam Chowder or with cellaring, try with pickled seafood, smoked salmon and gravelax.
